Richard Chai showed off metallic pantsuits with vibrant colors, along with leather and asymmetrical pieces. The collection’s uneven shirts and jackets had a 70’s and 80’s look with a modern edge.

Zac Posen, Pamella Roland, Alice & Olivia, Carolina Herrera, Dennis Basso had beautiful designs that were on display for a good cause. Many models wore red to raise awareness for Heart Disease Awareness Month.  Skiier Lindsay Vonn couldn’t make it to the Sochi Olympics, but walked the runway like a champ with her crutches.  Model Ireland Baldwin looked just like her beautiful mom Kim Basigner ( not dad Alec Baldwin). Nene Leakes took a break from fighting with her fellow Real Housewives of Atlanta to model as well. For many fashion and music fans, rock legend Joan Jett walking down the catwalk was a special treat.

Fall 2014  fashion will be all about Americana,  frontier, and Wild West trends with fringe scarves, frayed edges, equestrian-inspired boots and blanket coats. Nicholas K. and his collection definitely followed the trend, with many models looking like they were ready to ride horses on a ranch in Texas rather than suffer through New York’s snowy winter. The laid-back looks were accessorized with masks worn as headbands, Western-style boots for New York’s blizzards in the winter weather, and nautical knots tied into necklaces and bracelets that are perfect accessories for fashionistas everywhere.

Other big fabrics on display during the beginning of new York Fashion Week were plaid, houndstooth and gingham. Though the materials are conservative, they can be dressed up with bright colors and statement necklaces and bracelets.

Another big trend for fall was the androgynous look of  menswear-inspired shoes, like Oxford shoes, oversized sweaters, and tailored sportswear. The sportswear trend will continue but not dominate women’s ensembles. The pieces will add a strong influence to an otherwise feminine outfit.  Michael Kors had sneakers with brocade pants in his collection. The mixture of masculine and feminine is a throwback to style icons like Katherine Hepburn.

Fall is all about fabulous coats and the ones on display were so exceptional. PETA supporters may get mad because fur is definitely in, from vests to jackets to coats, but faux fur is fashionable, too. New York Fashion Week is sure to show the most stylish clothes that every woman will want to wear this fall.
