I’ve been in Paris for a couple months now and am no stranger to the late-night crêpe stand. But I’m here to tell you to leave them be. Trust me. It may seem like you’re eating delicious crêpes but you’re not. You’re missing out on the best crêpes and cutest venue in Paris: A La Duchesse Anne. Admittedly, I was drawn to this place because I too am named Anne but that’s not what kept me coming back.
Upon my arrival, the waiter seated me in a nice little alcove at the back of the cafe. I perused the menu, noticing how affordable everything was. And–it being Paris–I decided to try their crêpes. While I waited for my food, I watched Parisians watch pedestrians and enjoyed the smell and sounds of a busy espresso machine.
Finally my crêpe arrived and it was everything I could have hoped for. Slathered in butter and sprinkled with sugar, it was so large that a corner hung off the plate. And when I took a bite I was pleasantly surprised by the bit of orange zest I tasted. It disappeared in a matter of minutes and from that day forth, I never ate another street stand crêpe.
On top of all that, the service was wonderful–a rare occurrence in Paris. The waiter was attentive and the atmosphere was quite serene for such a busy arrondissement. So do yourself a favor the next time you’re in town and head on over to A La Duchesse Anne. I promise you won’t regret it!
